Hmmm, Nokia e71x or Samsung Jack?

Category: accessible Devices

I went to the AT&T store yesterday and checked out a few phones. These are the 2 that grabbed me the most.

Looking on code factories website, it looks like they are both under the AT&T discount plan, so that doesn't help my decision.

The Jack is a windows mobile phone, so that one may be better in the long run. Am I more likely to buy another windows mobile phone in the future? Therefore not paying for another mobile speak.

No Mobile Speak during a phone call on the Jack. That's a downside.

I'm not sure. What's your guys advice? This will be my first time having a 100% accessible phone. Also, this means I'm switching companies. Pretty big steps! *lol*

Though, I suppose the deal breaker may be, did I read I need a data plan with the Nokia? I'm not ready to commit to that.

Aw'well, I look forward to your feedback.

I tried out the jack and didn't like it. I'm just going to suck it up and get the e71x and get mobilespeak. I mean if you just want to call and text then I think e71x is the way to go. The big thing for me is the battery life much better on the e71x I've read. I was wondering though how much is mobilespeak out of pocket thanks

Acording to mobile speaks website the e71x is apart of the AT&T deal. Out of pocket you'll find prices between $275 - $295.

Is it true I'll need the data plan with the e71x?

I'm not sure about the data plan. I have one anyway, so I don't know if you need one with the E71X.

I experimented with both phones, and they both had their limitations. But if it were me, I'd pick the E71X.

The Jack's reception was awful. I've had several other Cell phones (including the Motorola Q that I'm using now), and they've all had way better reception than the Jack. Mobile Speak Smartphone reads signal strength as a percentage, and with my Q, I usually have 93% or 77%. With the Jack, I hardly ever got higher than 53%, and in general it was lower.

Right now, with the current version of Mobile Speak Smartphone, you won't be able to access your "My Stuff" folder on the Jack. That's the folder you'd need to access any documents, pictures, or even your storage card. I don't know why that folder isn't accessible.

In general, Symbian is a more stable operating system than Windows Mobile. I noticed that the response time with Mobile Speak was better on the Nokia than the Jack.

Two things you may notice about the E71X though, are that calls might sound a little bit tinny on your end (they did for me anyway), and if you make your own ringtones, they have to be 300 KB or less (it's the same with the Jack at the moment). But even with its faults, I think the E71X is a better quality phone.

Brooke, thanks for all the information.

How is the volume of the ringers?
Does mobile speak work during a phone call? *Smile,* I guess I feel if I'm making this big leap, I want to hear my caller ID on a call waiting call and if someone sends me a txt during a phone call, I want to hear it.

Hmmm, leaning towards the e71x now. I did like that keyboard better. Any idea where the sd card goes? I believe on the Jack it is under the battery cover. That is quite inconvenient.

Thank you all, I truly appreciate this!

THERE IS A SLOT ON THE SIDE OF THE E71X for the sd card

nokia e71x. the sampsung jack is pure shit. if you want a phone that is like a safe then get the jack. you can't use internet sharing or mobile geo because the peace of crap does not see your gps and you can't modify the registry witch is in important factor in windows mobile. plus the build quality sucks. hope this helps. believe me, i owned the jack for a week and hated it.

yeah the signal strengh blew on the jack. heck i live in a metro area and i never had above 50 percent and the thing dropped calls like crazy. so i left the jack and went to the htc fuze witch is 10000000 times better.

sorry my first post was not all that helpful. it was more of a rant on the jack. i have not sceen the nokia e71x but it sounds nice. i will admit, i do miss my symbian on my nokia 9300 but i like windows mobile a lot. i wanted mobile geo and i am glad i got it. i know that was off topic and i'm sorry. anyway, i hope you have good luck in getting a new phone :). i think you will like at&t as well :). i defanatly don't plan switching companies anytime soon!!!!

With the E71X, you can have speech during a call, but not with the Jack.
I didn't mess with the ringer volume too much, so I won't be much help on that one.

Personally i like the synbian os better than windows mobile. As far as I know both the e71 and the jack are smart phones which means att will require the data plan for both (the reason i stuck with my 6650 since ATT doesn't consider it a smart phone), And if you plan to use gps WayFinder on Symbian is about $30 vs the $845 or so for mobile geo on windows mobile, and from demonstrations i have seen they both work just as well. However if you don't want to switch carriers and you don't mind paying the $300 for mobile speak you can just find a windows mobile smart phone on your current carrier. But yeah with everything i have heard about the 2 phones (and i do like the e71's keyboard better myself as well) i would go with the e71.

I haven't tried GPS on my E71X but other then that I'm happy with the phone.
